John 21

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. The disciples had a deja vu moment with Jesus.  How has God used familiar experience in your life to teach you or remind you of His promises and His presence?

  2. Peter’s statement, “I am going fishing,” represents his return to what was familiar and comfortable after Jesus had left.  Is there something you tend to return to or rely on when you feel distant from God or when you're feeling uncertain?  When feeling tempted to go back to your old ways, what helps you resist the urge to rely on past habits and comforts instead of trusting in God’s plan for you?

  3. The disciples went fishing one more time despite a night of failure.  What lessons can we learn from their perseverance?  Are there areas in your life where you feel like giving up?  How can you remind yourself of God’s faithfulness and continue to press forward in faith?

  4. The Bible tells us that the disciples had fished all night and caught nothing, but Jesus instructed them to cast their nets on more time, resulting in an overwhelming catch!  Reflect on a time when you felt empty or like your efforts were in vain, but God showed up and provided.  How did that strengthen your faith?  How can you encourage someone else who might be feeling empty or disconnected from the Lord?
